The Law School at the University of Essex, in collaboration with the Constitutional and Administrative Justice Initiative (CAJI) is looking forward to welcoming you to our online event:
Let’s Talk Everything PhD
So let’s find out a bit more about what this is all about…
Who might this be of interest to?
This event is designed for anyone who is thinking about applying for a PhD in the field of public law or administrative or constitutional justice. Bear in mind, however, that these are big areas, so to help you identify whether your idea for your PhD proposal falls within this remit, here’s some questions that are very relevant:
- Are you interested in analysing the relationship between the individual and the state?
- Does your idea relate to improving knowledge about the use and effectiveness of judicial review?
- Are you addressing questions related to constitutional power?
- Does your research relate to comparing aspects of different constitutional systems?
If you have answered “Yes” to any of these questions, then this event is certainly for you! The event will provide you with an opportunity to discuss the process of doing a PhD and your proposal (if you wish), with academics in the field in an informal context.
What will be talking about?
We want to help you address your queries and concerns, so we will be enlisting the help of our academics, administrators and current students to all be part of the discussion on topics such as:
- Introduction to Essex Law School and CAJI – find out who we are
- The process of putting together your proposal and applying for a PhD here at Essex
- Finding a supervisor
- Thinking about funding
- Discussions around developing your idea, or helping point you in the right direction of addressing something you are stuck with
- What it is like to be doing a PhD
- What other opportunities, above and beyond your PhD studies, are there here at the University of Essex such as our research clusters, assistant lecturer roles, training courses, Presenting at the Annual PGR Conference, involvement with CAJI, involvement with the Human Rights Centre
- Q & A Session
Whilst our discussions will relate to some aspects of life here at the University of Essex, you don’t have to be applying here to still benefit from logging in for this Webinar. Much of what we will be talking about will likely apply no matter which university you are applying to, so please do register to join us for this online event.
Sounds Interesting? Here’s what you need to do next:
You can register for this Webinar which will take place via Zoom on Thursday 12 December 2024 at 3.30pm (UK time).
Here at the University of Essex, we have some of the leading academics in the field of public law. So, you can take a look at our academic staff here to help you identify a potential supervisor if you decide to apply to the University of Essex
If you want to, you can also e-mail us (caji@essex.ac.uk) your proposal in advance of the Webinar. Once we receive it, we will share this with our academic staff to see if there’s anyone who has expertise in your area and is available to supervise.
We look forward to welcoming you to this online event.
